Hi, I’m Bee Shapiro and I’m the founder of Ellis Brooklyn. Before that I was the beauty columnist for the New York Times for 13 years. It was a dream job and one that was as aggressive, glamorous and thrilling at times as Devil Wears Prada plus a few bookish editors and Game of Thrones Varys types. I started Ellis Brooklyn because I was seeking clean, eco-friendly fragrances but also because I had something to say in the scent world. I was pregnant with my first daughter Ellis and living in Brooklyn and pondering on how we think about diversity and representation in photography and music, or visual and auditory arts, but when it comes to our sense of smell, we aren’t aware of who is influencing our scent preferences.

All of which leads me to Bee and Sky. Well I had a second daughter, my magical Sky who loves to socialize and share and is just a joyful light wherever she goes. This site is for her. It’s meant to be a place to share daily pleasures like beauty and style, but it’s also a place to gripe or chat about motherhood, finances and relationships. We hope you’ll find little bits of levity, laughter and life here. xxBee
